Changing Lives Through Learning

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School

Founded in 1564 by Royal Charter, our school has been helping young people to secure outstanding academic results and providing a well-rounded experience for over 450 years. The school encourages students to take responsibility for their learning from the moment they join, ensuring they are well prepared for the challenges they face on their journey at QEGS. We are a growing school with 1040 students currently on roll, but remain sufficiently small to recognise individual talents and ensure everyone is challenged and supported to reach their goals.

David Marchant - Headteacher

Our vision is to succeed in ‘Changing Lives through Learning’ by providing the very best possible educational opportunities for young people. At our heart our core principles of respect for the individual, the encouragement of involvement within school and the wider community and the development of initiative to provide students with confidence and curiosity are promoted through all areas of QEGS life.

Our amazing Year 13 Environmental Scientists and Geologists had a fantastic day at Liverpool University on Tuesday. They took part in a soil analysis experiment with an environmental analyst and management theme, and a forensic geology experiment with a criminal case theme. The real-world application of the experiments shows just where you can go with these qualifications! The opportunity to use some new equipment was brilliant. The students showed great interest in the experiments and were a credit to the school.

The year has got off to a brilliant start and our students have been out on trips and visits already!

Park House Farm and Dairy at Torpenhow provided our year 11 food preparation and nutrition students with a fantastic day of learning.

Farmers Jenny and Mark Lee explained how they farm both organically and regeneratively without any chemical fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides. We enjoyed a farm walk where we met the dairy herd and pigs and heard about the steps they are taking to increase biodiversity, including the planting of native hedgerows and deciduous trees.

In the afternoon we toured the dairy to see how they turn their pasture fed milk into a range of award winning cheeses and gelato. Finally we rounded off the day by taste testing the gelato and cheeses.

Thank you very much for having us!
