Queen Elizabeth Grammar School
Founded in 1564 by Royal Charter, our school has been helping young people to secure outstanding academic results and providing a well-rounded experience for over 450 years. The school encourages students to take responsibility for their learning from the moment they join, ensuring they are well prepared for the challenges they face on their journey at QEGS. We are a growing school with 1040 students currently on roll, but remain sufficiently small to recognise individual talents and ensure everyone is challenged and supported to reach their goals.

Happy Tolkien Day! 25th March is the day that Sauron was defeated and the One Ring was destroyed.
This year's Tolkien Day them is "Unlikely Heroes". Not everyone needs to march into Mordor - how can you be a hero today? And what will you read to inspire you?

Y10 Complete the double : County Champions at 15 and 7 a side Rugby Union.
🏉 County Cup Final – QEGS Y10 vs Cockermouth 🏆
A huge effort today from our Year 10 rugby team in the County Cup 15 a side final against a strong Cockermouth side. Cockermouth started brightly and took an early lead, but QEGS grew into the game and swung the momentum just before half time, heading into the break five points ahead.
The tough weather made free flowing rugby difficult, but our forwards rose to the challenge with several powerful driving mauls. As the game opened up, the backs added some excellent scores to extend the lead.
A great performance, full of character and teamwork. Well done to all the players involved!
A big thank you to Cumbria Schools’ Chris Hayes for everything he continues to do to support and promote schools rugby across the county. Also to Penrith Rugby Club for hosting the event. ... See MoreSee Less

Today Y7 played Crossley Heath. No photo due to heavy rain that made flowing rugby a challenge. The boys worked hard and persevered. Many thanks to Mr Kidd and Mr Holmes that gave up yet another lunchtime to help give opportunities to those that train.
Y8 season finished with a tough game vs Trinity At times QEGS struggled to cope with their strong runners. That said the experience did a lot to focus the next few training sessions and it’s been a very positive season. I hope that even more will get involved next year. ... See MoreSee Less
